Meet Mum and Dad

Mum to be - Zanzi (4 year old Guardian female bred by Raggy Dogs 11kg, her first litter)
Stud (Dad to be) - Cino (3 year old purebred Mini poodle 5.8kg)

The genetics and what to expect

Non-shedding, hypoallergenic multigenerational Mini Raggy Dog puppies (8-12kg).

Coat types: Non-shedding teddy bear coats.

Health testing: Both parents have been DNA tested and puppies will not be affected by breed-specific diseases. Stud ‘Cino’ PennHIP scored with better than breed average results.

Genetics: Zanzi is fleece coated, the daughter of our stunning and calm blue merle first generation Bordoodle ‘Harmaa’. Her dad is our homebred F1b Cavoodle Stud ‘Saffron’, whose parents are Piccolo (Toy Poodle) and Manuka (First Generation Cavoodle). Combining Zanzi’s diverse genetics and non-shedding fleece coat with Cino’s non-shedding coat traits and confident, charismatic nature; we look forward to great-natured, healthy and hypoallergenic puppies.

Increased Hybrid Vigour: These bloodlines have produced healthy, mentally and physically sound dogs in the past; by combining the genetics of our sweet Cavoodles with our calm, cuddly Bordoodles, these dogs enjoy the excellent health and hybrid vigour that comes with the increased genetic diversity of this mix. Being a few generations in, we have refined the size to be a perfect 8-12kg, making them an ideal family dog for most spaces. Similarly, we have also bred into our lines a non-shedding teddy bear coat.

After a 2 year break from breeding - we feel so grateful and blessed to be spending our days with this litter.

Our Puppies are Family Dogs by Nature and Nurture

Environment - Our Family Home

We are passionate advocates of breeders who raise their puppies in the family home. Puppies that experience the sounds of a family home in their formative first weeks of life, have a head start on socialisation.

We consider our puppies to be part of our family. When one of our puppies joins your family, our family’s loving influence on their first 8 weeks of life endures. Our puppies are played with, cuddled and filled with love.

By the time they go to their new homes at 8 weeks of age, they are secure and confident, due to our puppy-raising program and the socialisation inherent in our family-led approach.

Exposing puppies to common household sounds such as the television, vacuum cleaner, children playing (and having tantrums), clanging pots and pans, music etc makes their transition to their new homes far easier for the puppy and their new owners.

Our puppy-raising program, increases resilience and optimism, reducing the likelihood of our puppies developing behaviour problems as adults.

The video to the right, shows a litter of Raggy Dogs Toy Cavoodle puppies developing their confidence and social skills in our puppy play gym with their parents Piccolo and Manuka.

Developing Calm, Confident Puppies

responsible dog breeders
Our puppies undergo ENS and ESI during the first 3-16 days of life. We do this to increase their resilience and improve their lifelong wellbeing and health.

Puppy Raising Program ENS and ESI

We implement an ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) and ESI (Early Scent Introduction) program as part of our puppy-raising program. Our Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) program consists of applying gentle stressors to young pups in a controlled manner through specific handling exercises.

Click here to see a Raggy Dogs ENS session with our First Generation Toy Cavoodle Puppies

Based on years of research, it has been found that the programme had lasting effects and led to rapid neurological growth and development in puppies.

Benefits of ENS and ESI:

  • Improved heart rate and heart beats
  • Stronger adrenal glands
  • Improved stress tolerance
  • Increased resistance to diseases

Furthermore, the pups that received this stimulation were healthier, had better cardiovascular and adrenal health, and were generally better at problem-solving than puppies that did not receive this stimulation during the crucial developmental phase.

Puppy Socialisation | Cultivating Loving Sensory Experiences

From 3-12 weeks of age is a puppy’s critical socialisation period. As experienced dog breeders, we understand the importance of puppy socialisation during the formative first 8 weeks of a pup’s life.

Puppies benefit from positive exposure to sensory stimulation such as:

  • Car rides
  • The sound of fireworks, thunder, babies crying, traffic, construction, planes, lawnmowers, music, crowds, excited children and vacuum cleaners.
  • The sensation of uneven and slippery surfaces against their paws. In our puppy play gym we have ball pits, see-saws, wobble boards, slippery surfaces, soft spiky fitness equipment, A-frame, dog walk etc.
  • Visual stimulation such as umbrellas opening unexpectedly nearby.
  • Positive interactions with adult dogs.
  • Positive interactions with other animals such as cats, chooks, rabbits, and guinea pigs.

We pair these new experiences with tasty treats, calm words of encouragement, pats and play to reassure our puppies that they are safe.

From the time our puppies are born they are handled daily by adults and children of all ages.

Being cuddled, played with and engaged with humans extensively during their first 8 weeks of life, makes our puppies highly human-oriented.

Feeding | Home-Grown, Handmade Nourishment

We are passionate about dog nutrition and have researched and refined our Raggy Dogs puppy food and adult Oodle dog meal plan to include:

  • A range of human-grade meat proteins including lamb, beef, chicken, fish, pork and kangaroo.
  • Homegrown organic vegetables such as silverbeet, carrots, kale, and beetroot.
  • Quality bones that are sourced from farms that produce human-grade quality meats. Brisket bones, marrow bones, necks, feet, whole fish sardines, carcasses etc. By feeding our dogs and puppies bones, their teeth stay clean, their lives are enriched, they get their daily calcium requirements and they have fresh breath.
  • Bone broth and meat stock – most days we have a pot of bone broth or meat stock gently simmering on the stove. We consume broth ourselves and add it to our dog’s meals. Our dogs and puppies enjoy the health benefits of broth, including stronger immunity, a collagen boost, joint health, healthy sleep and digestion.
  • We never feed our dogs ‘dog-grade food’. It is an unregulated industry and dog foods contain meat and meat by-products that are deemed dead, diseased, disabled or dying. Consequently, it can be full of drugs such as anti-inflammatories, painkillers and antibiotics.

By feeding our dogs and puppies a balanced, premium quality and varied diet; we have found that our dogs:

  • Are never itchy, do not suffer from food allergies or tummy upsets and only ever need to go to the vet for their yearly vaccinations and checkups.
  • They have shiny, thick soft non-shedding coats that don’t have a doggy smell.
  • They have clean teeth and their breath doesn’t smell.
  • Minimal vet bills because our dogs and puppies have strong immune systems, healthy digestion and improved wellness.
  • Less waste in their diet, means our dogs and puppies produce less waste, they poop less!

Our puppies are raised on foods that are good enough for all our family members to eat and free from nasty chemicals.

Puppy Training – Life Skills

Our puppy-raising program includes training our puppies with a focus on developing life skills, including:

Our puppies enjoy short daily training sessions from 5 weeks of age. Once they are motivated by food we can start shaping behaviours such as sitting for attention, hopping on a boundary (the training foundations of going to their bed when asked) and luring them through obstacles to grow their confidence and optimism.

We start to positively condition our pups to crates and eventually, they work up to spending some supervised time in a crate next to us (chewing on long-lasting tasty chews) while we work in the office.

These training sessions grow their calmness and independence, preventing behaviour problems such as separation anxiety later in life.

Our puppies have access to our custom made puppy gymnasium featuring wobble boards, see-saw, dog walk, wobbly bridge, ball pits, water play and more. We have custom made our puppy gym equipment to ensure our puppies have positive experiences when they are pushed out of their comfort zones. Our puppies go to their new homes feeling confident and optimistic even when they are faced with uncertainty.

PennHIP Testing (Hip Scoring) to prevent Hip Dysplasia

Our stud dogs have been either PennHIP scored (Studs post 2021 – PennHIP is our current choice for hip scoring due to its higher accuracy in picking up hip dysplasia) or OFA (our stud dogs tested before 2021), scoring better than their breed average for hip soundness.

We hip-score our stud dogs to ensure that we are reducing the likelihood that our puppies will go on to develop the crippling orthopaedic condition known as hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia is a condition that is known to affect Cavoodles and Groodles.

Raggy Dogs New Puppy Owner Testimonials

Arushni owned by Zorro @zorrothesuperherobordoodle
“As a first-time dog parent, Tres made me feel so comfortable and answered all our questions so patiently. I had the opportunity to meet Zorro’s parents (Harmaa and Piccolo) in person, and we just knew straight away that we were taking Zorro home. Tres goes above and beyond to give all her pups the best start to their lives.

They are raised in a loving and stimulating environment, and the early nurturing provided by Tres, really shows in Zorro. He is the smartest little boy, confident and calm, great with people and other dogs. Raggy dogs share comprehensive guides, and a new puppy parents, you will truly feel like you are in good hands. Thank you for being so understanding, and also being invested in your pups journeys even after they have left.”

Jo owned by Rusty @rusty_the_groodle
“I cannot recommend Raggy Dogs highly enough. For a first time doggy owner I was extremely nervous but the wealth of information and advice that we were given helped enormously. We are on the other side of the country but being able to follow his progress ( and see his parents) through videos and photos before he was ready to join us made him feel part of the family straightaway.

Rusty arrived by jet plane to Perth aged 8 weeks. We couldn’t believe how well trained he was at such a young age – a testament to being brought up in a loving family environment. He even arrived with his own blanket, bed and teddy so he had familiar smells around him.”

Dimi owned by Bailey the cavoodle
“We could not be happier with the professionalism of Raggy Dogs. Their pups are reared with love & care.

Choosing a family pet is an extremely difficult task and Tres and Nic not only made it seamless and easy but followed up afterwards and sent us home with a wealth of information to transition our pup into our home and family! Thank you again! We cannot recommend highly enough!”

Noel and Pam owned by Paprika the cavoodle
“My family had the pleasure of meeting Tres and Nic of Raggy Dogs. We met the parents of our girl Paprika and also had a long chat about her wellbeing.

My husband and I are so thrilled with our little one, Paprika is so well behaved and every day is an adventure for her, she just loves everyone, and we can take her anywhere and know she will be welcome because of her early training with Tres and Nic.”

Guardian Homes Enable Ethical Breeding Practices

Support Ethical Breeders | Become a Guardian

Here at Raggy Dogs, we don’t believe in keeping dogs in kennels. Our dogs are part of our family and live as such.

Our four Poodle Stud Dogs live with us in our home and we place our breeding girls in loving guardian homes where they can receive the love, care and training they deserve and need. We sometimes also have opportunities for Guardian Home Stud Dogs. Our stud dogs come back to us for short visits when required for breeding.

Our breeding females have a maximum of 3 litters, spread over 4 years. This allows them to have time to enjoy life outside of being a mum.

If you’re passionate about Raggy Dogs’ vision and would like to love and care for one of our pick-of-the-litter puppies – we would like to hear from you!

Our guardians get to visit when their dog has had their puppies and often end up with a second guardian dog from one of their dog’s litters. Applicants should live within a 30-60 minute drive from Emu Plains, NSW.

What is a Guardian Home?

Family and Home

Ethical breeders only keep 2-5 dogs in their care. The goal of the Guardian Home program is to ensure that breeding dogs are part of a family and receive the care and attention they deserve while still being able to contribute to a breeding program.

Support and Rewards

Guardian Homes receive support from the breeder in terms of training, grooming, feeding, behaviour etc. When a successful breeding takes place, the guardian receives a percentage of any profits made from the breeding to go towards feeding, grooming etc.

Guardian Homes are responsible for providing the dog with regular grooming, training, feeding, veterinary care such as vaccinations etc (excluding anything to do with health testing and reproduction-related procedures which the breeder pays for).

Guardian Homes get access to and benefit from our community of fellow guardians. Our Guardian community shares their triumphs and we organise puppy play dates and catch-ups for our guardian dogs and their families.

Requirements for our Guardian Home Program

For our Guardian Home Stud Dogs, we require that they reside within a 30-minute drive of Emu Plains, NSW. We are more flexible with Guardian Homes for female dogs, who need to be located within a 1-hour drive from Emu Plains, NSW.

Guardian Homes must ensure that the dog receives adequate socialisation, mental stimulation, exercise and training. Guardian Dogs are expected to be crate-trained and leash-trained by the time they are 3-6 months of age.

Guardian Homes must own their own home. We have found that Guardian Dogs are not suitable in rental properties due to the housing instability brought about by landlords who change their rules around whether pets are allowed at a property or not.

Guardian Homes should have experience with owning and caring for dogs. They should also be passionate about the Raggy Dogs breeding program and its focus on producing quality puppies for responsible families in Australia.

FAQs - Puppies for Sale

We have a maximum of 1 – 2 litters of puppies each year. We don’t decide to have a litter of puppies lightly as it is a full-time commitment for 2-3 months where we are cleaning, feeding, socialising, training, grooming and enjoying the puppies, their mumma and our 4 other dogs. We usually only breed if we have a carefully planned breeding that we want to keep a puppy from. And so, understandably, some years we don’t have any puppies but we are always planning and ensuring our current dogs are receiving the best care and living life to the fullest.

All of our breeding dogs are DNA-tested for hereditary diseases associated with their respective breeds. Our stud dogs have been DNA tested clear of these common genetic diseases:

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)
  • Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures (NeWS)
  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (prcd)
  • von Willebrand’s Disease Type 1 (vWD1)

Our stud dogs have also been hip-scored with better-than-breed average results.

For a non-shedding, teddy bear-coated Toy Cavoodle, Mini Groodle or Multigenerational ‘Raggy Dog’ the cost is $4000-$5000.

Our puppies are not the cheapest and here’s why:

  • We are experienced breeders, having been involved in breeding for more than 30 years.
  • We health test our breeding dogs (Testing includes DNA testing and hip scoring for studs).
  • All of our puppies come with a 12-month health guarantee.
  • Lifetime support.
  • Rehoming if required.
  • Our dogs are fed a human-grade diet of organic vegetables and a variety of proteins.
  • We are ethical dog breeders who are proud to have a functioning guardian home program. This means all of our breedings dogs are first are foremost family pets. We are not a large breeding facility or puppy farm and we welcome visitors to our home when we have puppies.

Our puppies undergo our puppy life skills training program which includes:

  • ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation)
  • ESI (Early Scent Introduction)
  • Extensive socialisation
  • Sound desensitisation
  • One-on-one training
  • Crate training
  • Daily access to our custom-made puppy play gym to encourage confidence and optimism in the face of uncertainty and novel experiences

Guardian homes are an important part of our small breeding program. They allow us to breed dogs to an ethical standard that we are proud of. Therefore, we always welcome guardian home enquiries. While we don’t always have puppies or adult dogs looking for a guardian home, we always accept applications. Once your application is accepted, we will keep you updated with any puppies or dogs that become available in our guardian home program.

Yes, our puppies are non-shedding. We DNA test our breeding dogs for coat traits including shedding, furnishing genes, fleece and curly coat traits. Therefore, we understand the coat traits our dogs carry in their DNA and the types of coats they produce in their puppies.

  • Chocolate Merle
  • Blue Merle
  • Phantom
  • Chocolate
  • Ruby Red
  • Cream
