How to find reputable cavoodle breeders
Health tests
Reputable breeders provide the health test results of both parents. DNA testing should be a bare minimum. Hip scoring of at least one parent is also recommended. Ask to view the health testing documents of the parents, before buying a puppy.
Meet at least one parent
Always meet the mother of the puppies to see that she is well-socialised and sound of body and mind. Many ethical breeders utilise an outside stud dog - ask if you can see a video of the sire.
Puppy Raising Program
The first 8 weeks of a puppy's life will influence their temperament and behaviour as an adult. The best Cavoodle breeders carry out ENS, crate training, toilet training and have a puppy raising program that develops confidence, optimism and resilience in their puppies.
Health guarantee
Responsible breeders provide a minimum of a 12 month health guarantee for their puppies for sale. This is important because if any hereditary health issues arise, the Cavoodle breeder will have a protocol in place to provide a refund, repair or replacement.
Are you an ethical Cavoodle Breeder?
To be considered for a listing in our Cavoodle Breeders directory your breeding practices need to meet the following criteria:
- You must have no more than 6 breeding dogs in your care at any one time.
- Puppy buyers must always be able to meet at least the mother of the puppies you have available at some point in the screening process. It is common for ethical Cavoodle breeders to utilise a fully health-tested stud dog that is not owned by them. This allows them to have fewer dogs in their care and to introduce new genetics into their breeding program.
- Puppy buyers must be able to visit your home/property and see where the puppies have been raised.
- All of your breeding dogs must be DNA tested for breed-related diseases and fully vet-checked.
- All Cavoodle puppies for sale must be vet-checked, wormed, vaccinated and microchipped.
- You will have a puppy-raising program in place that includes ENS (Early neurological stimulation), crate training, socialisation and life skills development.
- You must provide a minimum of a 12-month health guarantee with all of your Cavoodle puppies for sale.
- You provide support for your puppy buyers in relation to best feeding, grooming, puppy training, care, toilet training, and sleep training practices.
